The Beth Dissertation Award

Each year, FoLLI awards a prize to outstanding dissertations in the fields of Logic, Language and Information. Each year, a call for nominations will be released setting the conditions and deadline for submissions for candidates.

Since 2002, the E. W. Beth Fundation kindly sponsors the prize, and to acknowledge this support the prize will for this year onwards be known as the E. W. Beth Dissertation Prize.

The call for submissions for the Beth Dissertation Award for the year 2009 has been released. Deadline extended till the 7th of April, 2009.

2009 Prize:

The selection for the E.W. Beth Dissertation Prize for the year 2009 is concluded. The quality of submissions was very high and the competition intense. After careful deliberation the committee has reached the following decisions:

  • The E.W. Beth Dissertation Prize 2009 has been jointly awarded to Emmanuel Chemla from the Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris for the thesis 'Presuppositions and Scalar Implicatures: Formal and Experimental Studies', and Lukasz Kaiser from Aachen University for the thesis 'Logic and Games on Automatic Structures'.
